New dinosaur bones discovered in Romania

02 September 2010

Dinosaur hunters in Romania have uncovered some bones which have come from a type of dinosaur never before seen.

Scientists found parts of the 70 million year old skeleton and think that it looked similar to the predator Velociraptor, though this new dino has one extra large claw on each foot, which was probably used to catch its prey.

It has been given the scientific name Balaur bondoc, which means "stocky dragon" and is believed to be around 2m in length.

Compared to the Velociraptor, the new dinosaur was probably not as fast, but much stronger instead.
